Help please,
I am directing Peter Pan next year and I am trying to find a minus track for the songs. All I can find is a few songs on a karaoke cd with Wizard of Oz.
     Anyone have a suggestion?

Do you want the music orchestration of 'PP' from the film produced by the MOUSE?
If so be careful & cross your eye's & dot your T's - as it is a very aggressive rodent when aroused!
There are a few recording houses, some where there, that have put show recordings down on CD, for a fee.
I can't remember who or where to find them, but a good google may help!

What company are you getting the scripts from?  usually they will be able to either supply or point you in the necessary direction for the appripriate music.  Not all shows are the same, song wise, so just ge sure your CD matches your scripts.

If you're going to try and do it without securing rights, my advice would be to not to try it.  Disney, contrary to popular belief, does not have a sense of humor when dealing with such things...

There have been several versions of "Peter Pan" performed for the public, including a stage version with music by Jerome Kern and another with music by Leonard Bernstein.

The ORIGINAL play "Peter Pan" (1905) written by James M. Barrie was a non-musical script and is rarely performed anymore due to the popularity of these that followed:

The BROADWAY MUSICAL version (starring Mary Martin, 1954) was an adaptation based on Barrie's original with music by Mark Charlap & Carolyn Leigh.

The DISNEY MOVIE was another adaptation which was released in 1953 and although, it too was based on Barrie's play, it credits at least a half-dozen writers & songwriters for the story & music. Rumor has it it was rushed into production in order for it to premiere BEFORE the Broadway Musical which had been in the works for several months already.

When JM Barrie died in 1937, his will stipulated that ALL PRODUCTIONS and ADAPTATIONS of "Peter Pan" shall pay royalties to the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. (This includes the Broadway & Disney adaptations.)

Although the copyright expired in 1987 (50 years after Barrie's death), a special law was enacted by Parliament to extend the copyright PERPETUALLY in order to continue supporting the hospital, which depended heavily on the income these royalties generated. The copyrights on the Disney and Broadway versions are still retained by their creators. Productions of these scripts shall pay royalties to them, in turn a portion of which is passed onto the hospital.

Needless to say, this has created a legal morass which has occupied lawyers on several continents for many years now and promises to provide lawyers with retaining fees for many years hence.

In a nutshell: if anyone so much as utters the words "Peter Pan" onstage in front of an audience, they owe SOMEBODY royalties.   Exactly who, I can't tell.
