We would like to create a platform with a railing ....(about 8 feet high) and stairs on either side.  What might this cost and does anyone know how to go about constucting it.

Are you sure you need it to be 8' high? If it is for beauty school drop out as someone else said, you may be able to get away with something shorter. The height doesn't really ad much to the cost of the platform itself, but it does increate the cost of the stairs. Also the higher the platform is the longer the stairs will be which means the piece will take up much more space.

I did Grease and we built the platform. I have pictures if your interested. I also have Greased Lightning that we're looking to get rid of.  Please email me at mailto:mcl.seanm@gmail.com for information about the car as well as the set.

We're currently in rehearsals for URINETOWN.  Our set has an entire   second level which is 8ft.  We put it together using 6 of our 8x4 platforms. We used Deck beams, used for house backyard decks.  Each platform has a total of 8 beams supporting it, along with standard cross bracing.  It's extremely solid, and doesn't budge a bit.
