I'd almost forgotten THE SISTERS ROSENZWEIG by Wendy Wasserstein (I think) - only four female roles, one very young, but all strong roles. A couple of male roles, not as strong.

There's a little bit of diva in all of us. Some just have a larger helping than others.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
Available through Samuel French. I did this years ago, it's very "Steel Magnolias-ish" and would fit with what you are looking for. PLus, being made into a movie people are familiar with it (it was Cher's first acting job, also stared Swoozie Kurtz, Karen Black, and Kathy Bates). |

This is my first time using this message board--I hope that I'm doing this right.
You've come up with many good selections, but here's an unusual choice: THE CLEAN HOUSE by Sarah Ruhl. 4 women; 1 man. It's about love, romance, telling the perfect joke, speaking Portuguese, and housework. |

Depending on your audience, Nunsense could work - very diverse characters, very funny premise, etc.

Loved Odd Couple Female Version. Of all the shows I've done, this one had the best comradarie and lots of fun. Even the Sunday matinee was a hoot and we all know what duds those usually are.

I have a show that has the flavor of Steele Magnolias, it's an adult comedy called "Southern Exposure" was a huge hit for us in 2003, played for six weeks to sold out houses.
Contact me for more details. Cheers, Thomas Amo |

Besides THE WOMEN, there is CRY HAVOC. I would suspect copies are available through Samuel French. You might want to go to Currency Press. There are a couple of terrific Australian plays like SORRENTO HOTEL that might fit your needs. In addition, you might check out DIVORCE SALE online at: singlelane.com/proplay/divorcesale.html

I've directed Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. It was a tremendous amount of fun!
Another one to consider (depending on the ages of your women) is The Oldest Profession by Paula Vogel. I've also directed that -- very funny and touching. I've always been a fan of Uncommon Women and Others by Wendy Wasserstein, too. |
