Well first off, I just need to whine a bit, so if anyone has some cheese, please send it my way.
Since I joined the board 3 years ago, I've been little by little getting the other board members to get organized and start pulling this theater back from the brink. Let me tell you that it has been like pulling teeth! lol.
This year, we have it all set...we have 3 killer plays all chosen ahead of time. This is a big step as we have been choosing plays as each one comes up before this (which drove me absolutely bonkers). So we have our season choosen. Our summer melodrama "Males Order Brides" has an absolutely fantastic part in which the villaness actually plays 5 roles. The play is written well and I was really excited to audition. This was also the first melodrama in 2 years that I wouldn't be directing. I can't be in the other two plays this year because one has personal life conflicts, and the other one I'm assistant directing.
Ok so there is the set up. Now everything is messed up because of the most wonderful news! I just found out I am pregnant with my second child. While I'm really REALLY excited about this, but it screws up all my theater plans this year lol. I can't do the melodrama becuase I will be a melon at that time. I don't even know if I'll be able to do the fall play because I may have my child near the end of rehearsals. Luckily I'll be able to be on commitees and such.
Now I am in no way upset that I'm having a baby, actually, I'm rather extatic, but I just wanted to whine....and brag that I'm having a baby.

Hey ... go audition! If you get the part you want, leave it up to the director and the costume designer to come up with some creative solutions to hide your "melon" ... carry a large handbag or book as Modesty, always have a tray or a large fan in your hand as Lola, a miner's pan or a large hat for Golda, and a hoop skirt or empire waisted dress for Indigo. You could even use your condition for some visual humor. As a costumer, I think it would be both challenging and fun to work around it.
Congratulations on your new "understudy"!
