Topic: log cabin set

i need help creating a set that has the appearance of a grand log lodge. I'm all set with the props: moose head, stuffed fish, snow shoes, etc, but would like help with the appearance of the log structure. I would like to avoid simply painting logs on flats. any help would be appreciated...

Saw an interesting use of large cardboard tubes cut in half to simulate a log cabin. You would need a lot of them them though.

I once won an award for the must carpet tubes used in a single season... managed to incorporate them into three out of five shows... Really, Linda's recomendation is best. The cut easyliy on a table saw or with a skill saw. You can get them in a variety of sizes from the carpet stores in your area... If you talk nice to them that is... Most times, they are thrilled to get rid of them with out paying to have them hauled away... They give you great dimension and paint up real nice...

Thank you for the great idea!

I needed a 3D version, to be viewed from inside and outside the of the cabin. I used the carpet tubes but did not rip them lengthwise for this use but instead stacked the tubes into a wall.

To construct it, I drilled holes in the top and bottoms of the cardboard tubes. Then used wooden 2X2s, placed vertically, then slid the tubes one at a time over the 2X2s - forming a wall.

Stacked them 8 feet high and made a free standing 'log' cabin. Three walls ended up as a U-shaped plan. Two 6 foot side walls and a 17' long front face with door and window. Happily VERY stable. Took me 35 man-hours from the time I started collecting tubes till it was all assembled. (not including painting time).
