Just to emphasize - if you use whipped cream - keep it cold.  I'm currently ASMing a panto version of Jack and the Beanstalk.  Three nights ago, props had the whipped cream ready at the half ( for a stunt at the end of the show).
Needless to say, the "liquid" whipped cream went everywhere on stage, and there I am in a blackout trying to clean up the worst of it  with a paper towel, so the actors don't slip during the finale...  :)

The next night, we were prepared with a large mop, and props kept the whipped cream in a cooler, and we were fine - not a drop!

I just opened 'Stagre Directions' EMagazine.
Which features the HSM on the front page & interesting articles by T Rutter & J Shields [IOWA]
I wonder if they are the same as the Greenroom members?Wink

Great article Troy!

Sad little side note - the new theatre group that I started here in Iowa City is contemplating doing HSM next year.  I don't know if I have strength.  However the revenue would be great!

By my calculations, that means Iowa City now has one theatre group per 8950 residents.

And those other theatres charge $14-20 an adult ticket and aren't getting the patrons.  Our tickets are $10-15 for adults and $5-10 for students (higher ticket prices for Englert, which is a much more expensive venue) and we're STILL making a decent profit for future productions.  There may quite a few theatres in Iowa City - but not very many obviously addressing the actual needs and desires of the market.  Which is probably why at least one of the area theatres is going bankrupt and will probably not be around next year (after 50 years)

I hear the Young Footliters had to add seats at their last performance and still had to turn patrons away.

Well, Wild Horse Children's Theater just opened our show on Friday night to sold out crowds for the past 3 shows!  It has been an incredibly stressful and anxiety-ridden rehearsal process with over 90 kids in our cast...and a very small stage, but we pulled it off and I couldn't be happier!  To say the least, it has been worth every sleepless night!  Here's some photos from our local newspaper.  We have another weekend to go and I will post more photos on our website soon.

Talking apples and oranges, Ken.  That's wonderful if the Young Footliters (who only do children's shows with children in them) had that turn out!  Granted, that is pretty typical when you have a cast of 30 children and their family all come to see them.

While that's great that Footliters had such a wonderful turn-out - I'm wondering why they are having a difficult time finding a director for Grease?  And had to resort to using a man who embezzled $20,000 for a local school when he was a drama teacher?  While putting 3 porn subscriptions on the schools credit cards...  Perhaps their troubles are not with attendance, but experience of their board and "producers."

Om Swastiastu,

I'm curious if anyone else outside the US is doing a production of HSM? Love to hear about it. I'm the ex-pat American Director/Choreographer for a production in Bali opening March 14, 2008.
We have the joy of seeing our cast of 75 racially-diverse kids work their little bottoms off learning this show. It's a first time experience for most of them. (Not a single American Musical Theatre piece done in Bali outside of the International Schools)
Nationalities represented in our cast include Balinese and other Indonesian kids, American, Australian, New Zealander, Italian, French, Chinese, Japanese, Phillipino, German.... and more I don't even know about, I'm sure.
I would think productions outside the US have an open field in terms of casting and character development. Love to see this discussed.
Om santi, santi, santi, santi om.
