Topic: lighting question Posted: 10/12/07 at 10:52pm |
I need some advice re: gel colours. I need my painted backwall to serve two purposes: one setting involves various shades of green and the other setting needs to be darker and gloomy (no green at all if possible). If I paint the backwall in shades of green is there any way to use coloured gels to change the overall effect to a darker more sinister feel? I have some idea of what I could do, but I am no lighting guru!

Not being a lighting guru, the only thing I can suggest, is useing the Samoiloff effect.
( this was first done by Adrain Samioloff in the 1920's, at the Hippodrome Theatre in London.) He used saturated complimentry colour on costumes & sets, by subtracting red or green to change the perseeved colour of fabric & pigments. [At the ehd of the My Fair Lady 'Ascot' scene, the black & white costumes change to green] With the shades of green if you add red this will give it a gloomy sinister, the same by adding blue/red will give a gloomy coldness. This is one of those things to play with different colour hues. I think in this case if you try Lee 246 mauve this will give you what you require or L181 Congo blue. |

I was actually thinking that red would do the trick - thanks for the colour suggestions!
