I am taking an informal survey trying to see what Christmas/Holiday shows various theatre groups are performing. What are you doing this year?

We are doing Oliver! this November and Annie next November.
Marty W. Are you renting or building AudreyII? I am involved with two theatres. One is doing Little shop in January and one is doing it in July.
Both are on tight budgets so we are doing our best to go share Audrey related costs as much as possible. Renting the "official" one is out of our range. Just wondering how others are approaching it.

We are doing "The Ballad of King Windowglass" and that christmas classic..."11 Variations on Friar John's Failure". Ok the second one isn't a Christmas play, but the first one is a great one.

I have been thinking of doing a community supported program. The plan is to invite the various organizations and groups to come and perform in a Holiday Spectacular. We have many different dance groups and chorale groups, not to mention the various theater groups in the area.
I would put together a show that would raise money for some charity. With proper planning, each group should be able to do a different numbers. The most effort on my part would be creating the line-up of the show and decorating the stage with a holiday theme. Then have the groups come together the week before to do techinical run and basic lighting design.
But alas, the timing has been off and just have not proposed my idea to the theater company.

Funny you should mention that biggertigger. I propsed something similar
about a year a go. When the City Council drcided to refurbish the venue
we use & turn it into a performance space. The idea was similar, To
have a Gala Opening useing all the performing community groups to do do
items for the show, wich my theatre group would do the overall
cordination of putting it together. Being the only theatre group in our
City & I would direct the Openings & finarles of each Act,
along with a couple of ensemble numbers. orginising the technal &
production side as well.
However unbeknown to us, the Council Flunkies have got a budget aproval to do a Grand Gala performance, with theatre groups from neoghbouring City Communities. Cutting out thier own City community groups & us of course. Which got roght up my nose, considering they are paying these other theatre groups a fee to perform, for this Galah Opening. Needless to say we got the hint & planning to aviod using the New venue & finding our own performing space from now on! Which will be a good thing anyway for us in the long run. Three of the local city Councillors are up arms, bit the Mayor does not care at present, as he is the administration is awaiting the outcome of a State Crime & Corruption Tribunal findings, which are due in the new year. So things will change possibly for the better in future? I have a feeling in my water the refurbished venue will be another white elephant, as no one at the council has a clue about running a theatre. So I have advised our mob to just hang in there & within 2 years, when the venue has been used & abused, we might be in the box seat to take it over. Because it will become another mill stone around the Councils neck! I have seen it happen so many times with Council run venues. [End of Rant!] Any way our next show will be a play in March '08, which is writen by one of our members, who is a Murdoch Uni stident & I'mm orginising the 'Pholies' [Pheonix Follies] for 'Christmas in July' as a yearly & touring production. |
