Hello all,
I'm not sure where to post this, but hopefully this is the right place.
I wanted to share my poster creations with you for our shows since the Summer of 2006.
The first one I did with my publishing program (Borderbund's Pringshop Pro Publisher) Is "Lady Sophie's Secret", The Second was my Improv Now poster, which I also created and directed , third was "A Comedy Carol" .Then into this year the first was "The Fantasticks" and then "Stop the Presses!".  "Yankee Doodle Song and Dance Man" was done for the children's summer drama program that rents the theater from us. They gave me a poster to put up on our website, but I couldn't scan it into our computer so with blessings from the director, I created one for our website.  I guess I'm tooting my own horn here...but this program is a lot cheaper than say Photo Shop and you can get some wonderful posters out of them.
Here is the link to view the posters  http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w43/ilyra_morgan/

I also created our logo from this program.
Hope you like them and constructive criticism is always appreciated

The one piece of constructive criticism I could offer would be to use more of the space on the poster for artwork and less for the detail text. If a poster is hanging in  store window for example, the text isn't what's going to attract someones eye, it's the artwork. Once you've caught thier attention then they will get closer to the poster to read the details. The name of the theater and the show should be fairly large since these will have some recognition, but all the other details can be made smaller. Just be careful to check the licensing info for the show since it sometimes spells out exactly how large the show name and or authors name has to be.

Thank you for your response!
I definately tried that for "Stop the Presses" (bigger graphic).  I should have done more for the Fantasticks.  The others, luckily were non royalty, since Lady Sophie was written by one of our member's mothers, Improv Now, was created and directed by me, and Comedy Carol, was written by one of our members.  Cheap late half of the year for us! lol.  I definately will take to heart the checking on the size of the titile and the size of the authors.  I definately don't want to mess with our liscensing!
Thank you again,
Kendra

Kendra, Love the posters.  I was going to post the same as Dan, but saw that he had already spelled it out for you.
You can usually find the licensing agreement for use of title and credit in the front of the script.

Wow!  Those posters are neat.  What kind of arrangement do you have as far as getting them printed?  Our posters and programs are always black and white photocopied.  We're cheap.  People insist on putting photos on posters and in programs, which do not photocopy well.  Oh, how many posters did you have printed for each show?  I'm really glad to see you designing original posters.  It looked like maybe one was printed in only black and red?

As far as the printing of the posters, our printer only charges us the price of black and white.  In exchange, they get recognition in our programs in our "Star Corner" thanking bussiness and individuals by name.  We also have him put his name on the posters themselves.  He never really put it on big enough, so for "Stop the Presses" I took his logo off the internet and put it on there.  When I brought it in to him, he grinned at me.
As for how many posters, we cover the three towns closest to us and so we print about 100-150, depending on the size of the cast.  We have also been having problems with another theater group removing our posters from public areas, so we print a little more to replace the ones that are stolen.

Yes "Lady Sophie" was printed in only black and red.  It was actually my first poster and I had fought tooth and nail with the board to get ANY color onto our posters.  Later we found out that it costs the same for one color vs. 3, 4, 5 etc.  because it all goes through the color printer and so he charges the same price no matter how many colors you have.  The black and red turned out to be quite striking too because of the contrast.  My drama teacher told me to always try to make them noticable from accross the street so contrast is always good =D

One thing though, my printer told me that if you are designing a poster on the computer, put it in 8.5 X14 because it keeps the poster in proportion when you blow it up.
