I am in the process of selecting a Christmas musical for younger children to perform. I have some criteria: it needs to have a small number of speaking parts (5-6 max.), it needs to have 5-6 chorus numbers, and it should be one act in length. The show is performed by the primary division of an elementary school, and they use our community theatre. There are generally a few speaking roles, and then 'classes' of students perform the different chorus numbers. This system works really well as it involves everyone - bit of a traffic headache on and offstage, but all of the 680 seats in the audience are filled! Thanks for any suggestions!

Please elaborate a bit more: 
You say "Christmas Musical" - does that mean it should have a theme relevant to Christmas, or is it just that it is staged at Christmas?
Do you really mean a maximum of 6 speaking parts, or do you mean 6 principal parts (with other people having a line here and there)?

(Also, for those of us living on a different continent, please can you clarify "primary division of an elementary school" by age or grade.)


With the above in mind, which tell you I don't quite know what I'm talking about, then you might consider:-

- "Greece - the Musical" by Sue Gordon, (yes, that is the correct spelling - it's a musical parodying Ancient Greek legends, using Greek drama structures - so not Christmassy)
- "Jungle Rock" by Sue Gordon (more speaking roles than you want, but most of them are small - the biggest roles are the five narrators - so not Christmassy)
- "A Letter to Santa" by Sue Gordon (again, more speaking parts, but not many.  Structured to divide into two groups - a school class and Santa's elves)
