Hi, I have the following problem: We put up a production at school which turned out really well and now we have been invited to put sections of the performance up again in a public venue. The problem though is that the stage is 3.5 times larger than our own. Ours is about 20' across while the upcoming one is 67.5' across.

The set pieces we used looked alright at school but I think that if we use the exact same set pieces for the new venue visually they would look 'small.'

I would like to ask if it would still work if I used lighting to have everything else dark and then the focus of light put on the set pieces. In this way, emphasis is on the set pieces rather than the set piece as compared to the whole stage. I would like to ask if this would work?

Any suggestions to overcome this problem? I don't think I have enough funds or time to rebuild the set though it is already very mobile.

This type of lighting works very well and often looks better than just simply masking the stage down.  Be sure to keep the focus tight on only the space you are using, and not extend any areas further than necessary.  In a situation like this any spill will be distracting and draw attention to the empty space.
